The challenge

U.S. and Republic of Korea officials met to negotiate market access for specific fruits, vegetables, and plants. The talks turned on the exact rendering of technical and regulatory language — phytosanitary terms, tariff categories, commodity definitions. They also needed the right people in the room and clear communication lines set up in advance.

The solution

DCLS provided translators and interpreters for the negotiation session, with the domain vocabulary the subject demanded. The DCLS program manager also identified and coordinated the participants — federal and local government officials, business leaders, and technical experts — and set up the initial and ongoing communication mechanisms with the USDA delegation around the meeting.

The results

  • A bilateral agricultural trade negotiation supported with accurate, domain-specific interpretation.
  • Participant identification and communications coordination handled alongside language delivery — one partner, not two vendors.
